A RUSSIAN GOLD-MOUNTED NEPHRITE PEN TRAY Probably Faberge, Russia, circa 1900, unmarked The curved oblong nephrite tray on two scrolling nephrite feet, each end applied with a gold laurel leaf border Length 8 1/8 in. (20,6 cm), depth 2 3/8 in. (6 cm) PROVENANCE: King George I of the Hellenes (1845-1913) By descent in the family: sold at The Collection of King George I of the Hellenes, Christie’s, London, 24 January 2007, lot 407. CONDITION: Very small chip to the inside of one leg. Good overall condition. NOTE: George was born in Copenhagen, the second son of Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg and Louise of Hesse-Kassel. He was elected King of the Hellenes in 1863, following the deposition of King Otto, and reigned until 1913. In 1867, George married Grand Duchess Olga Konstantinovna (1851-1926), the daughter of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich (1827-1892) and granddaughter of Emperor Nicholas I (1796-1855).
