Drosera australis , also known as a pygmy sundew, is a perennial carnivorous plant that is commonly found along the southern coast of Australia, particularly in the Esperance region. Although currently classified as Drosera occidentalis subsp. australis, notable Australian botanist Allen Lowrie considers it a distinct species. The plant features deep red leaf rosettes, typically under 2 cm in diameter, which can form attractive clumps. Its spatula-shaped leaves, up to 10 cm long, are lined with glandular tentacles that secrete a sticky substance to trap insects.Origin: This species thrives in nutrient-poor, sandy soils enriched with humus, especially in light seepage areas and moist soils just above inundation zones. Native to southeastern Australia, it is commonly found in Tasmania, Victoria, and parts of New South Wales, preferring damp, boggy habitats often associated with wetlands and heathlands. These environments provide the high humidity and acidic soil conditions essential for its growth.Product Features:Prefers full sunPygmy DroseraProstrate growthTrap: green with red tentaclesAdditional info: For more info & photos visit our blog and our page Facebook and Instagram.
