They are seriously NO PREP, highly engaging, and standards-based.  Just present a pre-made math talk each day and let the math conversations begin! After engaging our students in a few of these activities, we were hooked. One of our goals then became to create standard specific number talks. We needed to be able to grab number talks that addressed specific math standards we were working on in our math program (such as Counting On to increase computational fluency). It is best if Number Talks are done daily for between 5 and 15 minutes. Can these number talks be displayed on an interactive whiteboard? Yes! In fact, a digital version is included that allows you to write right on the slide using PowerPoint (directions, if needed, are included). Do I have to print out number talk materials for each student each day? NO! This is a whole group activity. Just display the number talk for everyone to see.
